Hi! Taking the first step toward therapy can feel overwhelming, and it’s often the most important one. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Massachusetts, bilingual in English and Spanish, with over 13 years of experience supporting individuals across diverse settings, including clinics, schools, hospitals, and residential programs. I specialize in dual diagnosis, depression, anxiety, and related mental health concerns, and I am committed to helping individuals from diverse backgrounds work toward their personal goals.
I’m Amanda, and I became a therapist because I believe everyone deserves a place where they can show up exactly as they are. I bring warmth, authenticity, and even a bit of humor into the room when it feels right. I want you to feel genuinely seen—not judged—and supported in whatever you’re working through.
I’ve been in the counseling field for over 15 years and hold a PhD in Counselor Education from the University of Tennessee. My experience ranges from private practice and telehealth to correctional mental health, hospitals, and leadership roles in community programs. A. Simms Resume copy
I work with adults experiencing mood challenges, anxiety, identity concerns, life transitions, and LGBTQIA+ experiences, as well as individuals who are justice-involved or adjusting to major life changes. My approach integrates CBT, ACT, and Reality Therapy, giving us room to explore both deeper patterns and practical skills.
Clients describe me as encouraging, steady, and real—someone who helps them feel grounded and capable while taking meaningful steps toward a more balanced and authentic life.
I’m a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) who is passionate about helping people navigate life’s challenges and improve their mental health. I earned both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Social Work from Anna Maria College and have worked in both clinical and school-based settings. I have experience working with children, adolescents, and young adults on navigating school-related stress, emotional challenges, and life transitions.
I work with people from all walks of life who are ready to look inward, explore patterns, and make meaningful change. Together, we’ll address your goals—whether that’s managing symptoms, improving relationships, or finding a greater sense of purpose and peace. I believe therapy works best when it’s grounded in trust, curiosity, and collaboration. Because diagnoses are never one-size-fits-all, I approach mental health as a specific set of experiences in a complex world. I show up as my genuine self to show that therapy can truly be for anyone. I’m ready to work together to make your life feel like a place you want to be.
I possess extensive clinical, supervisory, administrative, training and teaching experience. I enjoy working with diverse populations with a variety of clinical presentations. I have been trained in a variety of evidenced based treatment modalities.
I bring both my personal recovery experience and professional training to my work in alcohol and drug counseling, backed by a Master’s in Education in Psychological Studies and licensure as an Alcohol and Drug Counselor. For the past five years, I’ve had the privilege of helping people through the ups and downs of addiction and mental health challenges, and I’m committed to supporting each person’s unique path to healing.
My experience in the therapy field has taken me on many paths! I have worked as a social worker linking people to services and resources and as a clinical coordination of care for populations managing mental health concerns as well as cognitive disabilities. I have been a community behavioral health clinician providing individual and group therapy as well as working on an integrated care team with physical health providers. In my therapy practice, I work with anyone seeking EMDR for either single incident or multiple/complex trauma events. I also love working with perinatal populations and therapists seeking therapy for themselves! I see individuals 18 years or older in my practice. I take a trauma-informed approach in all that I do and want to make this experience work for you!
