I provide care for various forms of trauma, in particular complex intergenerational and racial wounds and their somatic impacts. Depression, anxiety and family conflict concerns are a few other areas I also specialize in. I help folx on the margins of dominant cultures navigate the intersectionality of identity.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and have worked with many trauma survivors. I began trauma focused work as a counselor at a domestic violence shelter working with women and then began working with a wide range of crime victims. I began using EMDR in my practice to have better efficacy in treatment and to accelerate the healing process. I spent three years working on a DBT team delivering comprehensive DBT and facilitated DBT groups with adults, adolescents and parents.
Life is about change and some changes are more difficult to navigate than others. When we are stressed, anxious or depressed, it is a sign that our lives are out of balance. My focus is on providing a safe, supportive, nonjudgmental and compassionate space for adults, couples, and families to share their experiences and to help navigate through some more difficult life changes [positive or negative] to create more balance in your life. I have at least 4 years of experience in working with a wide range of people who are experiencing anxiety, depression, life transitions, family conflict, as well as symptoms of severe and persistent mental illness. I enjoy working with clients who are motivated to make changes to improve their lives, find purpose, and meaningful fulfillment. I would encourage you to create the skills for effective coping mechanisms for overall wellness. I can collaborate with psychiatrists, primary care physicians, social service agencies and will accept most health insurances. Deciding to engage in therapy and choosing a therapist can be overwhelming. Finding a therapist whose personality and style is a good fit with yours is important. More importantly, I see YOU as the expert in your life with unique values, needs and issues. I have my BA in sociology from Haverford College and my Masters in Social work from NYU. I have my LCSW and have a background in doing home visits with families in Brooklyn struggling with mental health and substance use. I have four years post graduate training in Gestalt Therapy at the Gestalt Associates for Psychotherapy and I have also studied Developmental Somatic Psychotherapy at the Center for Somatic Studies. I am a trained yoga teacher and have been practicing meditation for 10+ years.
I am experienced in working with diverse groups of adults at varying stages of their lives who bring a variety of personal and relational challenges to therapy.
